UN Assembly to analyse Israel’s war crimes in Gaza

Comunicas.- The General Assembly of the United Nations hold a plenary session to analize the implementation of the so called Goldstone report that accuses Israel of war crimes during military invasion against Gaza.

The call, made at the request of member countries, was confirmed this Thursday by Jean Victor Nkolo, spokesman of the UN highest body president, the Libyan diplomat Ali Treki.

The session should adopt a draft resolution on the response of the Israeli and Palestinian sides to the report of a commission headed by South African jurist Richard Goldstone, who investigated violations committed during the aggression on Gaza.

Early this month, the UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, considered insufficient the information received from both sides on the war crimes showed in the report.

Military actions against the Palestinian territory took place between December 27, 2008 and January 18, 2009 and left a toll of 1400 dead and more than five thousand wounded.

Last November the General Assembly adopted a resolution demanding that Israel and the Palestinian side to open investigations on imputations and prosecution of those responsible.

The Goldstone report, of 574 pages, demands the guilty to be judged in the International Criminal Court and calls the Israeli and Palestinian authorities to investigate, through their legal systems, the war crimes outlined in the document.
