Venezuela is preparing “new measures” for a potencial “US-backed armed aggression from Colombia”

Comunicas.- Venezuela is assessing new measures and signs in the dispute with Colombia, in the light of potential US-backed armed aggression from that country.
Since the escalation spurred by the Colombian government of this bilateral crisis, the Venezuelan authorities have been on the alert to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and implement a precise strategy against each contingency. The measures include maximum surveillance on the Colombian border.
After reviewing intelligence information and analyzing the escalation of accusations against Caracas, President Hugo Chavez decided to cancel his trip to Cuba scheduled for Monday.
According to Chavez, an attack from Colombia was more probable than it has been in the last 100 years.
In the case of a military attack by the Colombian administration, with Washington’s consent, Venezuela would take measures not only to counter the foreign attack, but also to neutralize the internal opposition that supports such warmongering plans.
Chavez denounced contacts between opposition governors and extreme right-wing military officers and paramilitary groups from Colombia, and warned that whoever backs an invasion of the homeland is a traitor and will be treated as such.
The Venezuelan president also announced the decision to cut off oil supplies to the United States in the case of a US-supported war against Venezuela.
Four days after the breaking-off of relations between Caracas and Bogota, after Colombia accused Venezuela of allegedly allowing Colombian guerrilla fighters on its territory, which Caracas denies, Chavez called for unity among all sectors of the country to counter the plots hatched in US territory.
He also called for unity between the Venezuelan and the Colombian peoples, who have been brothers and sisters for centuries of common history.
“We are the same family, the sons and daughters of the Liberator of the Americas, Simon Bolivar,” he stressed.
“Venezuela is an example for the peoples who fight for justice, for equality and independence; that is why they use (Alvaro) Uribe to attack our homeland,” Foreign Minister Nicolas Maduro said.
